Edelweis or Anaphalis javanica or Bunga Senduro in Bahasa is one of the protected plant in Indonesia. Actually in other country there is Edelweiss too, but it's different with Edelweiss in Indonesia. In other country they called Leontopodium alpinum. It is found in Germany. But this species has a different characteristic with Anaphalis javanica. Edelweiss usually grows in various high mountain in Indonesia. This plant can grow up to 8 m and it can grow as big as human foot, although generally not exceeding 1m. Edelweiss word comes from Germany, which means Edel : noble and Weiss : white. Usually edelweiss grows between April-Agustus. Edelweis is a pioneer plant for young volcanic soils in mountain forests and able to maintain their survival on barren land. Because edelweis can make mikoriza/symbiosis with certain mushrooms/fungi ,so that it can expand its area and improve efficiency in finding nutrients. Edelweiss never wilts because it contains hormones that can prevent the loss of petals are ethylene hormone.

You can cultivate edelweiss in the highlands. If you want to grow up this plant you can plant seedlings grown from seeds and scattered around the mother tree and planted in calcareous or sandy clay media with a pH (soil acidity) between 4-7. This plant is reserved.In addition to violating the ethical code of mountain climbing, revoking edelweis can be threatened with punishment according to Law Number 5 of 1990 Concerning Conservation of Ecosystem Resource Article 33 paragraph 1.
